WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING?
Not sure what cosmetic tattooing is or if it's right for you? Cosmetic tattooing is a form of semi-permanent makeup that uses a microblade or a machine to implant pigment under the skin. This technique can be used for a variety of cosmetic enhancements, including scalp tattooing, eyebrow tattooing, eyeliner tattooing, and lip tattooing. The results can last up to several years, making it a convenient and low maintenance option for those looking to enhance their beauty routine.
Cosmetic Tattooing Services
At Ink & Glow we offer all forms of Cosmetic Tattooing, including the more niche specialisms of Medical and Scalp micropigmentation. Below you will find more information on all the ways tattooing can enhance your features.
Eyebrow Tattooing
So, you've decided to entrust your brows to the experts - a great choice! But which technique is suitable for you - Microblading or the Digital method? And what’s the difference between the two? Both microblading and the digital method are types of eyebrow tattooing, but they employ different techniques to implant the pigment into the skin.
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
Microblading involves using a specialised hand-held tool with a fine blade to create small cuts in the skin that resemble natural eyebrow hair. This technique is perfect for achieving a natural and soft brow look, as the pigment is placed in a higher layer of the skin. It is important to note that Microblading isn’t suitable for every skin type and for those with Oily skin we recommend opting for the Digital method.
MICROBLADING AND SKIN TYPES
-
Oily Skin: Microblading will fade quickly, needing frequent touch-ups, strokes will heal more powered and not as crisply.
-
Dry Skin: Holds pigment well with sharp results, lasting up to 18 months
-
Combination Skin: Varies, oily areas may fade out quicker.
-
Normal Skin: Balanced healing with a long-lasting result
WHAT IS THE DIGTIAL METHOD?
For the digital method, we use an electronically powered machine and nanoneedles. With digital eyebrow tattooing, we can achieve a wider range of effects, such as shading, ombré, and a combination of super-natural hair strokes and shading (combination brows.)
This technique is not the same as a traditional tattoo. We use brow pigments designed for Permanent makeup, not tattoo ink.
DIGITAL METHOD AND SKIN TYPES
Digital brows are suitable for most skin types. It's a good option for people who want to:
-
Enhance sparse or uneven brows
-
Achieve a natural, defined look
-
Simplify their daily beauty routine
-
Create a wide range of eyebrow shapes and styles
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING IN FOR YOUR EYEBROW TREATMENT
-
As with any cosmetic tattooing procedure you will need to have a patch test at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. This can either be sent out to you in the post or a time can be arranged for you to come into clinic to have it done.
-
You shouldn't expose your brows to extended periods of sun exposure (sunbathing) for 30 days post procedure. Furthermore, it is advised that even after your brows are fully healed you should cover them with SPF50 to avoid prematurely fading your pigment.
-
You will not be able to go swimming or use saunas or sunbeds for 30 days post-procedure
-
You are advised not to exercise for 5 days post procedure – sweating can interrupt healing
-
You cannot get your brows wet for 5 - 7 days post-procedure
-
You should avoid skin peels, microdermabrasion, skin needling etc for 4 weeks post-procedure
Eyeliner Tattooing
An expertly applied eyeliner tattoo offers a long-lasting solution for achieving the appearance of thicker, darker lashes and more defined eyes. This semi-permanent makeup technique ensures your desired look remains in place without needing nightly removal or careful reapplication each morning. Permanent eyeliner is a PMU (permanent makeup) treatment that involves using a specialised tattoo machine to implant pigment along the lash line, creating the illusion of eyeliner. This treatment, also referred to as an eyeliner tattoo, can be customized to achieve various styles, including bold winged liners and subtle lash enhancements.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM AN EYELINER TATTOO?
Many individuals opt for permanent eyeliner to achieve a long-lasting, defined lash line. This is particularly beneficial for those who have experienced lash loss or desire a subtle enhancement. Additionally, a more striking eyeliner look can be a time-saving solution for those leading busy lives and is especially fitting for holiday getaways, eliminating the need to worry about smudged eye makeup. The treatment is popular among clients who struggle to create balanced makeup looks due to unsteady hands or vision impairment.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR EYELINER TATTOO AND HOW BEST TO LOOK AFTER IT.
After your treatment, you may experience some swelling in the treated area for the first 24 hours, which is completely normal and will gradually diminish. It's important to refrain from wearing any eye makeup for a week and avoid rubbing the eye area during the 4-week healing process. It's recommended to keep the area dry for 5 - 7 days and use the soothing aftercare balm given to you after your treatment. Similar to other PMU treatments, the pigment may seem to fade, but this is a natural part of the skin healing process. The pigment will gradually return as you continue to heal. You'll need a retouch appointment 4-6 weeks after your initial treatment to address any gaps and make any necessary adjustments.
Lip Blush Tattooing
Lip Blush, also known as Lip Tattoo or Permanent Lipstick, is a professional cosmetic and aesthetic procedure that uses a digital machine to implant pigment into the dermis of the lips, resulting in fuller, more defined-looking lips.
HOW WE DESIGN YOUR PERFECT LIP CONTOUR
Each person has a distinct and unique lip shape, which is why at Ink & Glow, we tailor each lip treatment to the individual. The process begins with the application of numbing cream, followed by the pre-draw. During the pre-draw, lip liner is used to create the desired lip shape and establish a clear template that guides the treatment process. This personalized approach ensures that each client receives the best possible results.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST LIP BLUSH COLOUR
When clients come in for a lip blush appointment, they often bring their favourite lipstick shade and ask us to colour-match it for them – we’ve become experts at mixing Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk at this point! Other clients seek our expertise to determine which colour will complement their natural undertone. Your skin's undertone is the subtle hue beneath its surface. While your skin tone refers to its colour, the undertone refers to the underlying shade within that colour. There are three main types of undertones: warm, cool, and neutral. To determine your undertone, you can simply look at the veins on your wrist. If they appear blue, you likely have cooler undertones, and lip pigment with cool pink undertones would complement your skin. If the veins appear to have a light greenish tint, then warmer pigments would be more suitable. If your veins appear to be a mix of blue and green, you have a neutral undertone, and you can wear a wide range of colours.
A BIT ABOUT THE LIP BLUSH PROCESS
Once the pre-draw is approved and the lips are suitably numbed, the procedure itself can begin. The lip outline will be completed first to ensure a crisp border and then the body of the lip will be filled in. The tattoo process can take anywhere from 90 minutes to three hours – everyone’s lips accept pigment differently.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM LIP BLUSHING?
-
Individuals with busy lifestyles who welcome time-saving techniques
-
Individuals who lack lip definition
-
Clients who lack symmetry on their lips
-
Clients with darker, hyper-pigmented lips looking for lip neutralisation
-
Partially sighted individuals who struggle with their makeup routine

I came to Hannah on recommendation through word of mouth, as a few people I know have had procedures (one for cosmetic tattooing and for plasma pen).. They both spoke so highly of Hannah as a therapist- and the work they had done spoke for itself. Hannah made me feel extremely at ease when I went for my initial appointment- of course it is a permanent thing (for a year at least) on your face, so I was nervous. Hannah drew the shape of my eyebrows first and made sure I was happy with everything as well as checking the colour. She explained the healing process, and the different stages my brows would go through (all of which they did!) as well as the best way to care for them whilst healing to achieve the best results. I am EXTREMELY happy with the results- and I still have 2 weeks to go for my top up to fully develop. Thank you so much Hannah, the final result is incredible- and saves me so much time each morning!! Microblading will be a regular in my beauty routine now, and I will most definitely be returning to Hannah when I need to!

I first found Ink & Glow through a promoted Instagram post. After almost a year of debating and many lockdowns I finally booked an assessment.Hannah was extremely professional and gave me realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure. I felt confident in her skills and decided to go ahead with Scalp Micropigmentation for density. Hannah advised me I'd need 3-4 sessions. I was very happy with how clean and organized the studio is. Hannah is professional and friendly. Regarding results, after only one session I've had the result I expected out of 4! I can't wait to see how much better it looks after all sessions are done. The aftercare instructions were very clear. I'm so happy with my results that I'm recommending this to all my friends who mention they'd like one of the services Ink & Glow offers.

10 years ago I had my breast removed with cancer. The NHS were brilliant, and of course did do a tattoo for my nipple at the time. Because of how long has passed, the tattoo they did for me had completely faded, and left me feeling very self conscious. The lovely Hannah was recommended to me for medical tattooing, and I am so pleased to have met her. She has done an outstanding job. Everyone who has seen it cannot believe how realistic the shading is, it honestly does look 3D; and it has given me so much more confidence. I would highly recommend Hannah for her kindness and her professionalism. Anyone who is looking for medical tattooing- this is the girl for you.
