There definitely are some dos and don’ts before your appointment, most of which we’ve outlined below:
Before your procedure we will send you out a patch test to complete at home. Please make sure you do this and let us know AT LEAST 48 hours before your appointment that you’ve had no reaction.
Stop using any skin thinners (steroids) and chemical exfoliants (Vitamin A, Glycolic Acids, Exfoliation, Retinol, AHA)
If you want your brows tinted, threaded, tweezed or waxed make sure you do it at least 7 days prior to your appointment
If you’re a lover of botox or fillers you need to make sure you have it done at least 3 weeks before your appointment with Ink & Glow, if this isn’t possible you will need to wait at least 3 weeks after your appointment.
DO NOT take any blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, Niacin, Vitamin E, Omega 3) 72 hours before your procedure.
DO NOT consume alcohol 48 hours prior to procedure
DO NOT consume caffeine drinks on the day of your procedure. These will cause excess bleeding and may affect your results.
Stop using eyebrow or lash hair stimulating products 2 weeks before your cosmetic tattoo procedure.
DO NOT exercise 24 hours prior to procedure.
It is always worth noting that you may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around/ during your cosmetic tattooing appointment during your menstrual cycle.
Do not tan for 2 weeks prior or have a sunburned face
Eyelash extensions should be removed before your eyeliner appointment.
Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately after eyeliner procedure. Bring your glasses to your appointment. You can wear contact lenses as soon as your eyes return to their pre-tattooed condition
No medications should be discontinued without first consulting your GP.
If you are having a lip procedure and have a history of cold sores, we recommend you getting a prescription from you GP for Aciclovir tablets, which is an anti-viral medication. You will need to take them for a week before your appointment and continue to take them for a week afterwards to minimise the risk of an outbreak. If you can’t get them from your GP there is an online pharmacy called “Doctor Fox” that prescribes them.
This can vary from person to person, however, it is important to remember that semi-permanent makeup is a ‘low’ maintenance procedure and not a ‘no’ maintenance procedure. Environmental factors, diet, skin type and genetics can all affect how long pigments can be retained. Things like prolonged sun exposure and sunbed use can have an impact on pigment retention, but with proper protection, this can be prevented.
Treatment times vary depending on how advanced or detailed the required result is. Although some treatments may take as little as 1 hour, you should set aside 2-3 hours for your appointment. Semi-permanent makeup requires two appointments. You will have your initial appointment and then 4 - 6 weeks later you will come back for a colour boost appointment. During the healing phase your body will break down some of the pigment and the tattoo will lose some of its vibrancy, that is why a second treatment is recommended. This second appointment usually takes around 45 minutes.
